Podcast 2: Matilda’s Project
In March of 2019, 5 year old Matilda tragically drowned in the Stanislaus River at Knight’s Ferry, CA. Her mother, Marissa, generously agreed to come on the show to tell her side of the story. This is her story, in her words, completely unfiltered. Everyone here at Broken Girl was amazed by the absolute strength of character and composure that Marissa displayed while telling us her story.

Let’s Talk About Sex: Part 2 to Sex Education
Let’s talk about sex. Do you think relationship sex is better than Netflix and chill? I bet if you were to ask this question to anyone, you’d be bound to get a different answer based on their own personal experiences. The guy who has never had a serious relationship will probably answer a resounding “no” simply because it’s an experience beyond his understanding. The same goes for the high school sweethearts who have been married for 40 years and had never been with anyone else. I’m sure they would answer that relationship sex is the only way to get down. While the two cases above might be a little extreme,…

Podcast 1: Broken to Badass
Dear Readers- My Stories are through my perspective. My stories are filled with broken pieces, terrible choices, ugly people and the truth. They are also filled with comebacks, peace and grace. I am extremely proud of this project and to be given this opportunity to finally give BrokenGirl a voice. I feel blessed to continue this journey here in this crazy fucked up version we call, “LIFE”. Do You Know Your EQ?
Have you ever been put in a position where you had to express your emotions and you found yourself either: A. shutting down, or B. filtering them out? If you chose “A”, you might have a lower EQ, and if you chose “B”, you might have a higher EQ. Your Emotional Intelligence (EQ) “is the ability to identify, use, understand, and manage emotions in an effective and positive way. A high EQ helps individuals to communicate better, reduce their anxiety and stress, defuse conflicts, improve relationships, empathize with others, and effectively overcome life’s challenges” (Durlofsky). Recently, I was struggling with self doubt and my own feelings of self worth. When…

Devil’s Advocate: The Curse of May
“Guilt is like a bag of fucking bricks. All you have to do is put it down.” -John Milton in the Devil’s Advocate– As they say, “The length of your grieving time is measured by how much you deeply loved.” There’s nothing worse than dealing with severe depression. It’s easy to get lost in those feelings and emotions, which seem to just leave you numb. I’ve been having some trouble lately expressing myself because I’ve lacked a certain depth of attunement within myself. I’ve found myself in a frozen state. I’ve unfortunately put myself in a situation where I am disconnected with my children, friends, family, and work. I can’t…

The Freak Show
I have frustratingly reached that point (again…really?) where I am feeling defeated, disrespected, discarded, and absolutely powerless. I’ve thought of a hundred if not a thousand of different ways how to handle this situation. I never realized how many of those options you can play out in your head in just the span of a single thought. So, I decided to do what I do best. USE MY WORDS! Now, I have been labeled as manipulative because of my ability to articulate my feelings. I don’t feel the need to apologize for using my intellect. The stories I am about to tell you all are all true and through my perspective. If…

Through the Looking Glass of a 5150
There’s no need pretending that life is perfect. We tend to want to box up our problems and then only lift a corner to peek inside every once in a while. We never unpack them, or, if we do, they come out all at once and it’s usually not a healthy process. Why are people so afraid of their feelings? It’s almost like we are unable to open up and say out loud, “yes, that hurt me.” I don’t think that is a bad thing at all. In fact, I think people should be encouraged to learn how to communicate their emotions in a healthy way. All too often people…
